Welcome to the Reggio Emilia blog! I will be using this page to document what the Pre-K, Kindergarten, First and Second grade classes are up to during their Reggio Emilia studio time! Please check back often!

Thursday, September 5th: First Graders in 108 drew self-portraits without any instruction or observation while I photographed them.  I then gave a demonstration on the proper measurements of the face, telling them that these are secrets that artists know.  These images are before and after drawings from the same student during this lesson. The students will soon draw their portraits from observation by using the photos I took.  The students will compare the three drawings and discuss what they've learned as a class.  This is part of a larger lesson on Identity, which included drawings and conversations about the students' interests, families and talents.

The kindergarten students in 104 and 102 learned about different kinds of lines and where we see lines in everyday life.  They created drawings of many different lines.

The students in Room 118 started creating a project that looks like stained glass.  Mrs. Chowaniec and Mrs. Rose worked with the students in the Atelier and in their classroom to complete these beautiful pieces of art!
