120- We pushed in and continued working on the Multicultural Week project. We were doing the aboriginal dot paintings.
118- Students came to finish their symmetry drawings. This is the last group to finish this step. We should be done with this entire balance provocation by the end of the week! If students finished this step early, rather than letting them go ahead of the rest of the class, I had them painting balance. They loved this. It was really fun to see how they interpreted the balance.
108- We took two small groups. My student teacher worked with a group on the Andy Warhol identity portraits (I'll post pictures of those tomorrow) and I took a small group to work on their Multicultural Week door. Since their door is Ireland, we had a really good time creating drawings of Irish dancers and celtic knots made out of pipe cleaners on this St. Patrick's Day.
After lunch, we were treated to a surprise visit by a group of Irish dancers! I watched the kids in 108 and their faces lit up when they found out that they were going to see real Irish dancing.
103- I began preparing this class for our Burchfield lessons by introducing the senses. We talked about the senses and then drew things that we can taste, hear and smell. I encouraged them to write the words for the senses or for what they drew and some of them did! I want them to associate the words and drawings together, so that they can "write" their journals on our Burchfield-inspired walks.
102- The last group came in to finish their block houses. We glued them and tomorrow they will be able to take them into their classroom to play with them!
