We spent yesterday in professional development with Cadwell Collaborative. We learned a great deal about documentation and we really unpacked the Common Core Standards and saw how our Reggio-inspired lessons cover more standards than we would hit using worksheets and textbooks.  I think if other educators and educational leaders saw this process, they would be amazed at what documentation can reveal regarding the standards under the Reggio Approach. It's an incredibly thorough form of assessment.

In addition, we've laid the groundwork for our show at the Albright-Knox, which runs February 3-22, 2015. It's going to give the public the opportunity to see what we are implementing here and how incredible it is for the students. We are bringing out their inherent skills, using their prior knowledge and encouraging them to reach their potential and it's not just in the buzzwords kind of way. It's advancements in thinking that you can see on a daily basis.

Today, I took two groups to work in the studio.  First grade was a split group- one side was finishing the last of the portraits and the other side was starting observational drawing. After that, I had second grade come in for finish their portraits. As they were leaving, I grabbed my coat and headed out for the Burchfield-Penney with the kindergarteners.

This is a great way to tie writing into our experiences. Burchfield
took walks and recorded the colors he saw in detail.

This is the written piece transcribed.
