118- We had a discussion on drafts again and the students continued to work on their book about the animals in our community.
We had our final Burchfield-Penney and Albright-Knox trip of the year! I will post pictures of both trips soon. I'm very pleased with the connections the students are making because of their trips to the art museums.
Here is some dialogue from the museum:
We look at Paul Nicholson's Boat and Camron immediately says, "We are under water looking up at the boat! I can tell because of the way the paddles are!"
We move over to Ellicott Creek with Two Boats and Cherish says, "There are two boats, but only one has paddles!" This detail is something the docent never noticed before and the first stage of Art Criticism (describing what you see) comes easily to them.
At the third painting, Niagara Industrial Horizon from Chippewa Shore, By Claire Shuttleworth. Jada asks, "What is the brown stuff in the back?" showing that she is analyzing the painting. Camron interprets the painting by saying, "I think it's showing a sky that is going to rain."
